Who we are:

Terwillegar Community Preschool (TCP) operates from September-June out of Terwillegar Community Church right in the heart of Terwillegar Towne. We have been offering provincially licensed preschool programs for 3 & 4 year olds since 2012.

We feel it is our responsibility to nurture our children in all areas: physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. Throughout the year, our curriculum and resources support all of these areas of development, including Biblical principles and values.

Our curriculum is taught from a Christian perspective and teaches a broad range of skills within a monthly theme. We have a wide variety of books, toys, games, art supplies, and other materials which support each month’s theme, as well as literacy awareness and numeracy concepts. Each month also includes a component of character building education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you require parents to volunteer or participate in fundraisers throughout the year?
A: We do not have any volunteer or fundraising requirements in our program.

Q: Do current and alumni families have priority for future registrations?
A:
Yes, once current students and siblings are placed in their preferred class, we will place siblings of previous students before opening registration to new families. If you are an alumni family, please email Nicole Michaud at preschool@tcchurch.ca indicating your child’s name, birth year, and your preferred choice for class days/times. You WILL still need to submit an online registration form for your child once general registration has opened.

Q: If my child is absent from class do I still pay the same monthly fee?
A: No matter the reason or duration of absence, the monthly fees remain the same.

Q: How do I submit the registration fee and tuition payments?
A: E-transfers can be sent to admin@tcpreschool.ca, payable to Terwillegar Community Preschool Society.

Q: Is subsidy available for the preschool’s tuition fees?
A: Yes, families can apply for subsidy at Child care subsidy | Alberta.ca

Q: Can my child begin attending classes at any point during the year?
A: We accept new enrollments any time up to January 31st, after which time they would be registered for the following school year.

Q: Can my child start attending classes if they haven’t yet had their third birthday?
A: All students MUST be three years old before attending classes. If they have a later birthday you can choose to pay the monthly fees to hold their spot until they can start.

Q: Does my child need to be fully potty trained before attending classes?
A: Yes!

Q: My child has special needs. Can he/she still attend classes at TCP?
A: If your child requires additional outside support, we are happy to work with any agency you choose.

Q: Can my child attend more than one class?
A: We are more likely able to accommodate this request in our afternoon classes. Please email preschool@tcchurch.ca for further information.

Q: What if I register online but do not receive a confirmation email?
A: Be sure to check your "junk" folder as emails may be redirected there. You could also add the domains tcchurch.ca, tcpreschool.ca, and squarespace.com to your safe senders list. Please note that our system does not generate an automatic confirmation email once you have submitted a registration form. Confirmation will come from our director Nicole Michaud, in the weeks following our registration date.

Registration

Students are placed either in a class or on our wait list in the order in which their registration is received. These placements are subject to a confirmation process, and each class has an enrollment limit. Since demand is high, particularly for morning classes, once a class is full, you will be placed in the next available class of your choice. In the event that all of your preferred classes are full, you will be placed on a waiting list. Positions could become available if earlier registrations are not confirmed in time. You will be notified within 2 weeks via email if your child has a space reserved, or if you have been placed on a waiting list. Registration Fee and first month tuition are due upon confirmation of enrollment.

Overview of Registration Process

  • Complete and Submit Registration Form.

  • Wait for confirmation via email of a space for your child from the Director (up to two weeks from registration date).

  • You will be asked to e-transfer the registration fee within 2 weeks of being informed that your child has a space.

  • After 2 weeks, the space will be offered to the next child on the waiting list.

Nicole Michaud | director & TEacher

I have been the Director of Terwillegar Community Preschool since it began in 2012.  It brings me great joy to teach the children in our community and to build relationships with them and with their families.  I dreamed of being a teacher from the time I was preschool age myself!  I also dreamed of being a wife and a mother- my husband is Guy and I have two teenagers (yikes!) Zackery and Alexa.  We also include in our family two beautiful Siamese cats- Lucky and Lucy, and an aquatic frog named Lulu.  My favourite things to do in my spare time are reading mystery novels, doing puzzles, eating popcorn and drinking peppermint tea!

My favourite Bible verse is, Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.  My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise Him.”

Becky Mcfee | Teacher’s Assistant

I have lived in the Terwillegar neighbourhood with my husband and 3 children for over 10 years.  As a stay at home mom I have had the opportunity to work with many children in a dayhome setting, volunteering at the community elementary school and coaching many soccer teams.  I really enjoy participating in sports myself, especially in the spring and summer.  My love for helping my own children grow and thrive has brought me so much joy that I am passionate about continuing to help and support any and all children with whom I have the privilege to interact.  I look forward to everyday at TCP -helping children learn, grow, explore and be excited by the world around them!

My favourite Bible verse is John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”

Kim VanRoon | Teacher

I was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated from the U of A Education program in 1996.  I taught in the Edmonton area for five years and was a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years.  I have been a teacher at Terwillegar Community Preschool since 2014.  I live in southwest Edmonton with my husband and two daughters, and our dog and cat.  I really love teaching and getting to know my students and their families!  The highlight of every year is seeing how much all the children grow, change and learn!  It's also wonderful to see them develop their friendships in our classroom community!

My favourite Bible verse is, Psalm 46:10
“Be still and know that I am God. “

Qiuxia Zhang | Teacher’s Assistant

I am a mom with two children.  I have been working at TCP since September 2016.  I love working with young children because they make me laugh and they teach me to see things from a different perspective.  They are so much fun to watch as they play, learn, and grow!

My favourite Bible verse is, Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Noreen Lewis | Teacher

I am very excited for another year of teaching! I have been teaching at TCP since 2017 when I moved to Edmonton from Nelson, BC where I was also a preschool teacher. I have two young children (Eli and Rebekah) and a wonderful husband (Blair). I am so looking forward to meeting new little faces and teaching them as they grow!

My favourite Bible verse is, Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Karen Dalby | administration & Teacher’s Assistant

I have been with TCP since it began operating in 2012. I returned from my honeymoon just in time to start classes, and got used to being Mrs. Dalby very quickly! I enjoyed a few years in the classroom before going on maternity leave with my son Oskar. I stayed connected by assuming an administrative role, and as soon as Oskar was old enough to attend as a student, I also returned to classes. I enjoy the animated excitement that preschool children exude, and I look forward to many more years with TCP.

My favourite Bible verse is, Proverbs 16:9
“In their hearts humans plan their course but the Lord establishes their steps.”
