Nicole Michaud | director & TEacher
I have been the Director of Terwillegar Community Preschool since it began in 2012. It brings me great joy to teach the children in our community and to build relationships with them and with their families. I dreamed of being a teacher from the time I was preschool age myself! I also dreamed of being a wife and a mother - my husband is Guy and we have a son Zack and a daughter Alexa. We also include in our family two beautiful Siamese cats - Lucky and Lucy. My favourite things to do in my spare time are reading mystery novels, doing puzzles, eating popcorn and drinking bubble tea!
My favourite Bible verse is Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise Him.”
Kim VanRoon | Teacher
I was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated from the U of A Education program in 1996. I taught in the Edmonton area for five years and was a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years. I have been a teacher at Terwillegar Community Preschool since 2014. I live in southwest Edmonton with my husband and two daughters, and our dog and cat. I really love teaching and getting to know my students and their families! The highlight of every year is seeing how much all the children grow, change and learn! It's also wonderful to see them develop their friendships in our classroom community!
My favourite Bible verse is Psalm 46:10
“Be still and know that I am God.”
grace Lo | Teacher
I was born and raised in Edmonton. I graduated from the U of A Bachelor of Education in 2008. I started teaching at TCP in 2012 and I am excited to join this lovely teaching team again after having 3 children. I live in the southwest community with my husband, and 3 children (Noah, Rylee, and Miles). We love to go biking as a family, and my husband and I have just started to play more pickleball.
As a teacher, I love the opportunity to see the kids grow a little more every week as they discover with curiosity, the world around them. I look forward to getting to know each student and their families.
My favourite Bible verse is Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before men, so they may see your good works and praise your Father in heaven.”
Emily LAVIN | Teaching Assistant
I started working at TCP in September 2016, spending five wonderful years as a teaching assistant before transitioning to an administrative role elsewhere. I am thrilled to return to TCP, where I am so excited to reconnect with the children, families and teachers, and look forward to many more years ahead!
My passion for working with children has been a central part of my career, and I am excited to bring my experience and enthusiasm back into the classroom. Outside of work, I share my life with two cats, Fidget and Jim, and my wonderful fiancé Ben.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, taking walks, practicing yoga, watching TV, and baking. I'm looking forward to a fantastic school year ahead and can't wait to get to know all the wonderful students and families in our program!
My favourite Bible verse is John 13:34 “Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another.”
Qiuxia Zhang | Teaching Assistant
I am a mom with two children. I have been working at TCP since September 2016. I love working with young children because they make me laugh and they teach me to see things from a different perspective. They are so much fun to watch as they play, learn, and grow!
My favourite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
isabella onyango | Teaching assistant
I was brought up in beautiful Mombasa a coastal city in Kenya, and completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Nairobi. I am a mother of three young adults Wayne (Law), Nicole Zaina (Psychology), Nicholas (Music) and one teenager who loves soccer - Meshack (AJM School).
Before coming to Canada in 2020, my most recent professional role was with the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration where I headed communication and marketing.
Nurturing my children has always been my number one priority, a God given role close to my heart, and the gap they are leaving made me look for an area to serve in which I could continue fulfilling that role. I found it when I volunteered at Monsignor William school and have not looked back.
I bring Education Assistant experience from the ECSD, Certification from UofA, and am presently enrolled at Campus St. Jean Education Studies.
I am passionate about helping preschoolers grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the warm, supportive environment for which Terwillegar Community Preschool is known. I look forward to partnering with the teaching staff and families - encouraging each child as they learn and discover throughout the school year.
My favourite Bible verse is Joshua 1:8 — “This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Karen Dalby | administration
I have been with TCP since it began operating in 2012. I returned from my honeymoon just in time to start classes, and got used to being Mrs. Dalby very quickly! I enjoyed a few years in the classroom before going on maternity leave with my son Oskar. I stayed connected by assuming an administrative role, and as soon as Oskar was old enough to attend as a student, I also returned to classes. While I have enjoyed assisting in the classroom and the animated excitement that preschool children exude, I have once again transitioned to an administrative role and I look forward to many more years with TCP.
